About This Event
The School Holiday Program - Build, Weave & Craft is a permaculture-based gardening and farm education program for children, taking place on Monday, September 28, 2026, from 10 AM to 3 PM at Australiana Pioneer Village in Wilberforce, NSW.
What to Expect
- Engage in hands-on, nature-inspired creativity, building, and making on a farm setting.
- Explore a Permaculture Farm, visit and cuddle various farm animals.
- Gather natural materials like sticks, flowers, leaves, and stones to transform into unique creations.
- Participate in workshops to make nature suncatchers, botanical bug art, clay nature impressions, and miniature nature villages.
- Enjoy fun challenges like the Stick Raft Regatta and The Great Bird Nest Weaving Challenge.
Who Should Attend
This program is designed for children aged 4-17 years who are interested in permaculture, gardening, nature play, and hands-on crafting using natural materials. Parents/caregivers are welcome to stay or drop off children.

- Cost: $95 per child.
- Time: 10 AM - 3 PM.
Programme
- In this hands-on workshop, children will:
- Visit & cuddle the farm animals: Take a break from creating to visit our goats, chickens, ducks, quails and guinea pigs, with opportunities for gentle interaction.
- Explore & gather from nature: Wander around the farm discovering interesting natural materials including sticks, leaves, flowers, grasses, bark, seed pods, stones and other treasures.
- Make nature suncatchers: Create beautiful hanging suncatchers using stick frames, flowers, leaves and botanical treasures.
- Create botanical bug art: Transform colourful petals, leaves, grasses and flowers into insects and little garden creatures.
- Make clay nature impressions: Press leaves, flowers, herbs, feathers and other interesting natural finds into clay to create a keepsake.
- Build miniature nature villages: Work together to construct an entire tiny village using sticks, bark, stones, clay, leaves, seed pods and other natural materials.
- Compete in the Stick Raft Regatta: Learn to lash sticks together to construct a miniature raft, add a mast and leaf sail, then race it.
- Take on The Great Bird Nest Weaving Challenge: Use grasses, twigs, vines, leaves and other natural materials to carefully weave and construct a nest.

Put your nest to the ultimate test: Collect a real egg from the chicken coop and test if your handwoven nest can safely hold it.
- Along the way, children will learn:
- How natural materials can be used for building, weaving, crafting and creating.
- How birds and other animals use materials found in their environment to construct homes and shelters.
- Simple construction, lashing and weaving techniques.
- How to observe the shapes, colours, textures and patterns found throughout nature.
- How to interact gently and respectfully with farm animals.
- How to experiment, problem-solve and adapt.
