About This Event

Gardening club for home ed and children under 5 takes place on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, at Within The Walls Garden Project in Whitwell, England. These fortnightly sessions offer children the opportunity to experience the changing seasons through practical gardening, science exploration and creative activities in a beautiful working garden setting.

What to Expect

  • Practical gardening tasks appropriate to the season, including sowing, planting, and growing crops
  • Exploration of soil science, composting, and sustainability
  • Observation of insects and pollinators
  • Harvesting and tasting produce when in season
  • Engaging, age-flexible lessons on plant life cycles, photosynthesis, and ecosystems
  • Seasonal crafts such as botanical art, nature journaling, and seed saving

Who Should Attend

These sessions are designed specifically for home educating families with a range of ages. Activities are adaptable, collaborative, and supportive, making it ideal for everyone to learn together.

Practical Information

Tickets only need to be booked for children, with under 1s attending for free. The session runs for 2 hours, from 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM.

Programme

At this session, participants will:

  • Check for anything to harvest
  • Collect seeds
  • Begin clearing garden beds
  • Engage in a crafty activity

Every session also includes:

  • Real gardening tasks: Sow, plant and grow crops
  • Learning about soil, composting, and sustainability
  • Observing insects and pollinators
  • Harvesting and tasting produce (when in season)
  • Science concepts: Plant life cycles, photosynthesis, soil ecosystems, weather patterns, food chains, and biodiversity
  • Creative Nature Crafts: Botanical art, nature journaling, seed saving, simple eco-crafts
