About This Event

Open Gardening Day is a recurring event held on Wednesdays and Sundays at the ITAL Community Garden, The Black Gate next to 71 Firhill Road, Bellingham, London SE6 3SE. Join us to dig, plant, and share green thumbs with friends old and new in a peaceful, intergenerational community garden.

What to Expect

  • Learn new gardening skills and meet new people
  • Contribute to growing culturally diverse foods, from scotch bonnets to squashes, as a response to food insecurity and food sovereignty
  • Engage in discussion circles, edutainment activities, food growing workshops for children, and mental wellbeing sessions
  • Explore a green space that incorporates climate-friendly renewable energy and supports wildlife with a pond and wildflower bank
  • Connect with a dynamic local community and bring your ideas for collective growth

This event is ideal for anyone interested in community gardening, learning new skills, contributing to food sovereignty, fostering mental well-being, or connecting with like-minded individuals in a green space.

Practical Information

  • Opening Times: Drop in anytime between 11am and 3pm on Wednesdays and Sundays.
  • Compost toilet on site
  • Summerhouse shelter available
  • Wheelchair & raised beds accessible
  • Light refreshments always to hand
  • Attendees are encouraged to bring a pair of gardening gloves and a reusable water bottle for top-ups.
