About

The Adopt A Stream Foundation is a 501(c)(3) environmental nonprofit organization based in Everett, Washington, whose mission is to teach people to be stewards of their watersheds. Founded to promote watershed education and stream restoration, the Foundation operates the Northwest Stream Center, an environmental learning facility set on a 20-acre site in McCollum Park. The center features a half-mile universally accessible elevated Nature Walk that winds past a Trout Stream Exhibit and through forested wetlands, giving visitors of all abilities an up-close look at Pacific Northwest stream ecosystems and the salmon that depend on them. Through hands-on programs, guided tours, field trips, and volunteer opportunities, the Adopt A Stream Foundation helps students, families, and community members understand how healthy streams support fish, wildlife, and people. The Northwest Stream Center is generally open Tuesday through Saturday. To learn more, visit the Foundation at 600 128th St SE in Everett or call (425) 316-8592.

Working in Everett

Climate & hardiness zone

Everett sits in USDA Plant Hardiness Zone 8b, with winter minimum temperatures of 15–20°F — among the coldest zones in California's populated areas. This means genuine freeze events, irrigation systems that must be drained for winter, and planting choices carefully rated for cold hardiness. Contractors working in Zone 8b need cold-climate experience that many California landscapers simply don't have — it's worth asking directly about their experience with frost protection, plant hardiness ratings, and winter system preparation.
